July 18th, is Rick “White Boy Rick” Wershe, Jr.’s birthday. He’s 49. He has spent every day of his life in prison since age 18. He was paroled from a life sentence in Michigan last year, only to be grabbed by Florida to do time in a car fraud/theft case.
Wershe has never known freedom as an adult. As explained in my book, “Prisoner of War: The Story of White Boy Rick and the War on Drugs”, Wershe was recruited by the FBI to be a paid drug snitch—at age 14. Why? Because Rick was a child of the streets and he knew all the wrong people. He had no rules, no restrictions, no guidance or supervision. He came from a mostly loveless, dysfunctional family. His parents were divorced. His father, an admitted business hustler, engaged in frequent domestic violence. His mother fled the abuse and left her son and daughter with their mostly absent father.
Rick’s informant work was excellent—until he told on top-level police corruption. As explained in my book, the FBI dropped Rick as an informant for fear a police corruption case might expose the fact they falsified their own files—a felony—to use Rick as a snitch.
To find out all the details, check out my book, which can be ordered by clicking Buy Now. You can also read my past blogs about Rick at Informant America.
Through it all Rick Wershe has maintained a gritty optimism and determination that one day, he will be free. Here’s hoping he doesn’t have to spend his 50th birthday behind bars.
