In 2018-19 environmentalists fought hard against President Trump appointing Andrew Wheeler to head the EPA—Environmental Protection Agency. Wheeler was a former coal industry lobbyist. The League of Conservation Voters was among nine environmental protection groups that pleaded with the Senate to vote down Wheeler’s appointment.
Senator Sinema chose not to vote on the Wheeler appointment, thereby denying Democrats a crucial vote in the fight against Trump’s nominee.
